Hi,

I'd like to request a new forum, down in the Groups section.

"Random Play"
A place to discuss actual play for one-offs, convention games, and ad-hoc/semi-regular groups.

This'll be that "other" Actual Play forum I was talking about a couple of months ago.

[edit: I'm happy to moderate it. Which seems to primarily involve deleting spam.]

Done, Its in society so people see it when they log in and do not have to scroll down.

Seeing as you two piped up, you two can mod it.

I also think it should be in "Chat"... But what would I know.. not a lot really. :S

!

You can see the Society section without scrolling down? I'm envious. I have to scroll to see anything below "Upcoming Cons." Okay, I run my browser in a window, but even if I maximise it I can't see all the way to the bottom of "Society" without scrolling. And meanwhile more than half the screen is unused margin space, which leads me to offer a...

Suggestion: given that most people have landscape screens, perhaps the site design could make more use of horizontal space, say moving the menu, navigation and adverts into the margin, thus freeing up more vertical space for the forum list. I don't know whether this is feasible in the phpbb software, or what the commercial terms are around laying out the ads, though.

Another suggestion: maybe remove the moderator info from the forum summaries on the front page. Moderator names are visible on the forum pages themselves, and it's hardly the key piece of information users use to select a forum ("Wow! Mash is moderating that one! I think I'll post there!"). On the other hand given that the icons are fairly large this might not result in a significant space saving after all.

Just some thoughts anyway -- and it's nice to know that the admins are conscious of the importance of the "above the fold" thing. Puts you ahead of 90% of site designers I reckon.

Thanks for that, Glock.
Hey, if you want to shift it to Chat, go ahead. Societies seems fine, too.
