After considerable considerate consideration, I've decided that we are going to use E6 for Conan. Conan should be somewhat 'gritty', which only fits the lower levels. Also, this article shows that after about 6th level, character skill levels become rather unreasonable (by 6th level a character should be able to solve the hardest problems that they might come across in their profession, i.e., a DC 30 skill check).

E6 means that character level development stops at level 6, so once a character has reached level 6, they gain no more levels. This means that a character gains no more
  • hit points
  • skill points
  • bonus feats
  • ability increases
  • base attack bonus
  • dodge and parry bonuses
  • magic attack bonus
  • save bonuses
  • class abilities

Instead, for every 5,000 xp you gain (beyond the 15,000 required to get to 6th level) you get a feat. So characters still develop, just in a very different way. Some feats also emulate some of the benefits of going up levels (such as feats to give you more skill points).

Here is a more detailed description of E6.

However, Conan is also heroic, so we will play a rather 'soft' form of E6 where all the feats in all the rule books will be made available, ultimately, and any unique abilities at high character level will be made into feats. This will require some re-jigging of feat prerequisites, which I will work on over time.

In the next post I will start listing special E6 feats and feats with changed prerequisites or other changes.

Ability Training (General)
You spend time honing one of your Abilities: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma.
Benefit: Choose one Ability; treat that Ability as having a +2 bonus to that Ability Score whenever you are making an Ability Check. This bonus does not count when making a skill check or for any other use of that ability.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times, its effects do not stack. Each time you take this feat it applies to another ability.

Ability Advancement (General)
Your training pays off, and one of your Abilities increases.
Prerequisite: Ability Training in the same ability.
Benefit: Choose one Ability. You gain a permanent +2 bonus to that ability. This bonus does not stack with the benefit from Ability Training.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times, its effects do not stack. Each time you take this feat it applies to another ability.
