Hi all,

This last weekend's outage of the NZRaG services was caused by eNom, the world's second largest domain registrar. They mistakenly revoked all the domains registered through our hosting provider, and redirected them to revenue-generating websites. Our hosting provider is investigating legal options for punishing this reckless and costly action.

A customer notice from our hosting provider is copied below for your edification:


It is with regret that we advise customers that we are experiencing a major problem with our Domain Management partner, Enom.

For as yet unknown reasons Enom have disabled our account and changed the nameservers of an as yet unknown number of .com .net and .org websites.

We have made several calls to their US-based tech support but because it is outside of business hours they have refused to help and continue to tell us the only thing we can do is email their risk management department which reopens on Monday, US time. We have since been hung up on when making further reqests for help.

Enom are the second largest provider of Domain registration world-wide and we are perplexed as to why they have disabled our account without any notice, particularly over a weekend.

We can only apologise if this is causing you an inconvenience and assure you we have done all we can so far to get Enom to reinstate their account.

Early this evening we found that our Enom account had been reactivated.

We still do not why why it was disabled or who made the decision to reactivate.

We are currently updating nameservers and expect the process to finish shortly.

Please be advised that it may take some hours for your ISP to reflect the
changes.

We have today issued a press release to media to raise awareness of this issue.

We thank you for your patience during this difficult time and we will update
you when we have been contacted by Enom to let you know why this happened.


I will keep everyone updated over this, and will let you know if we get any further information.
