If so, I imagine there'd be statistics to support that. |
Yup. Hardly anyone does it. A couple of people formally drop out each year due to illness / emergency / not being able to make it after all. This year we had one. Last year was bad, and we had four.
(Of course, people can just not show up on the day, and we had at least one of those too. But there's a strong corrleation between preregistration and actual attendance)
If you had 20 dropouts, then I'd interpret it as getting a lot of speculative signups, from people who aren't sure they're able to make it. And that's a problem if its at the expense of people who are going to show and want to play. _________________ Playing: ArM5 - Fons Albae; Pendragon: Defenders of Sarum

No idea. I am just referring to the fact that there is no penalty from registering and withdrawing, much like the LARP.
Whether there is a psychological element, which I suspect there is, it needs more consideration. _________________ Playing: Doomstones (WFRP2e); Shades of Terra (Exalted: Dragonblooded)

It seems like you're asking why the LARP organisers don't have a person to do all the not-fun bits of organising the LARP.
And I think the answer is "Because it's not fun".
Of course, any shared project can be fun if you're doing it with friends. So maybe I'm wrong. But I think usually it'd be very hard to find a volunteer for that role. |
I think you're right, but I also think that it would improve the whole experience for everyone if the role was split out a bit.
But I take your point, that no one will want the boring job.
Cheers

Well it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask for such a volunteer if you were running a LARP, I just don't rate your chances. |

Maybe this admin person should be a joint LARP team and Kapcon admin team appointment. That way the two could coordinate relatively seamlessly and take advantage of Kapcn's greater knowledge base/stratagem. _________________ Playing: Doomstones (WFRP2e); Shades of Terra (Exalted: Dragonblooded)

That would make sense.
Also building up a bit of institutional knowledge as to how LARPs run (operationally) might be an idea.
As has been said though, the hard part is getting a volunteer for the thankless task.
Cheers
