I'm looking to start or join an old-school AD&D group. The good old days of poison, thief-acrobats, psionics, and 18/00 strength!

If you don't know what "THARC0" stands for, stop reading now.

Experienced DM, I have all the old books, including original World of Greyhawk setting + a bunch of modules (Hommlet/Temple/Scourge/Demonweb).

Seeking mature players, that can pick a evening and stick to it. Possibly 2-4 sessions a month. Auckland based.

I'd be up for this but sadly am in Wellington. I still one day plan to get a Hackmaster game off the ground if I can find people crazy enough to play it.

I don't know what "THARC0" means, but I have heard of THAC0.

It's the sound a dwarven greataxe makes hitting orcs. Honest.

Don't do it James. People in my group occasionally try to make a joke by suggesting that we play Hackmaster again, but the scars still run too deep. One look at those haunted stares and fake smiles should be enough to put anyone off. You will start off that first session by thinking that the mini-maxing and rules-lawyery is just fun and games and that you are pretending, and then 18 months later you find yourself convinced that the GM has it in for you and that the rest of the group is a selfish, back-stabbing group of bastards who are trying to cheat you out of your just rewards.

THAC0? So you are going to use that new fan dangled AD&D1e hack called AD&D2e? Will the adventures be based on the Twilight books? ;p

More seriously, like James this sounds cool but I am in Wellington. I have 3 1e module campaigns that want to do but never seem to get around to Smile

To be fair on the OP, the concept of THACO was initially introduced in print in the Dungeoneer's Survival Guide IIRC, so technically it's a 1E concept.

Man, I too am in Wellington, but would otherwise be SUPERKEEN for some AD&D 1e. Move down?

It was actually in wellington I first played, back in the 80's.

When Paladins seemed more just and vengeful, illusionists were never ever to be trusted, and you were to scared to pick up the Sword of Kas because of the Major Malevolent Effects.

I like the versatility of v 3 and 4, but to me, the essence of d&d is and will always be Gygax, and most likely, somewhere in the Flanasse.

Nothing says D&D more than "instant super tetnus" delivered by rusty blades in a pit bordered by a frictionless floor. Ah, Gygax... Very Happy
