I wasn't going to, but then I looked at the ingredients and thought about what I might do, then typed up a really quick outline (about 10 minutes?).

Now I'm sorely tempted:

Iron Game Chef Entry
Matt Cowens
TIME: One session of 2 hours
INGREDIENTS: Glass, Emotion, Committee

Premise
The game takes place in the future, on Venus, in a domed city. The players are about to make a submission to the emotion committee. This is a committee that decides whether a particular emotion will be permissible in a relationship. Relationships are all decided by charter, and regulated by implanted computer chips.

The characters also happen to be robots made of an intelligent semi-flexible crystalline material commonly known as Glass. All lawyers are now made of glass, as they are seen to be more ‘transparent’.

Session structure:

The group must decide on the following elements:

What is the relationship? Romantic, parent to child, company to company.

The group must pick an emotion to champion. Love, hate, envy, lust, friendship

The group must pick a demonstration to run. This will be a scene that represents the relationship, and shows how the emotion could be beneficial. Acting counter to the emotion during this scene causes stress fractures. Lawyers may shatter if there are too many problems.

GM’s ROLE
To be the committee, made up of very cynical, world weary dolphins. The dolphins use hard light holograms to introduce complications to the scenario, and to talk. The holograms all look like famous 40s actors and actresses, trapped inside mirrors. Nobody knows that the committee are dolphins, as they have used robot drones to hide their identity. The dolphins were experimented on by a Japanese corporation, and eventually took it over. They are nihilists, and use the emotion committee to try to find meaning in emotion. They have been using it for over 30 years.

Complication:

At exactly 1 hour 30 minutes the lawyer robots, besieged by hard light holograms, will break their programming. Introduce one new command per player, and brace yourself for the consequences. At the 2 hour mark, all the lawyers shatter and either recombine as a new, free entity, or are reset and reconstituted back into their original shape. If they combine as a new autonomous entity, they may take over the city or flee the dome and start their own civilisation.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. I think that writing for this kind of contest is probably very good for you, in the same way as eating vegetables, but is more fun.

I have a pretty hectic week (planning a course, Y9 activity day and such) but I'll probably try to get this written up. I'm going to aim for a single double sided A4 sheet, same size as Big Motherfuckin' Crab Truckers.

Well, for a two hour game the rules ought to be pretty short...

Huzzah, my entry is finished and sent.

Three Dooms
A roleplaying game of prehistoric disaster prevention.

Back at the dawn of civilization, a growing town is threatened by three terrible catastrophes. You will play the part of glory-seeking heroes and bickering town elders as you attempt to save the town.

The game requires no pre-game preparation aside from reading the rules and rotates the gamemastering duties.

You can check out a copy at http://genericgames.co.nz/downloads/ThreeDooms.pdf if you want.

I have a print-out of the 3 Dooms in my bag, and shall peruse when I get the chance.

A poster on the wall in the English Department office tells me that peruse means 'study thoroughly', even though it is commonly misused to mean 'glance through'. My NZ pocket Oxford dictionary tells me that it has two meanings, one to study, and the other to flip through somewhat randomly.

I will do one of these things in the next couple of days Very Happy

Matt, Morgue:

Cool that you're going to take a look, I'd really appreciate hearing what you think. Especially if you can trick someone into playing it Smile

I'm going to inflict it on my guys, but that won't be until we finish playing Sorcerer and maybe The Mountain Witch too.
