Howdy. I'm new to NZ, having just moved here Friday. I poked over to the KapCon site and it seems like many of the games are already full. I've never done the con thing before, so I've got no idea if there's much point in showing up to KapCon or not. Other than perhaps meeting some of the local folks that are into rpgs.

Also, I noticed there's some party thing or something on Friday. Is that an "everyone shows up" or... ?

Thanks for your time.

Many of the first and second round games are full. The rest of the con is wide open, because we don't register it in advance. As for rounds 1 and 2, there are still slots, there is always Games on Demand (if that floats your boat) and the RPGA (ditto), and if there are too many people we will run an extra stream. So, it is worth turning up (around 20 - 25% of the con doesn't bother to preregister, and seem happy to get a first-round game on the day).

Its just getting together at a local bar to drink and socialise before the con. All welcome.

Only the first two round gets preregistered, to help administration of the Con and encourage early preregistrations. So that's still 4 rounds of gaming free.

On thing to be aware of is that rounds are chosen the round before. So if you plan to turn up later in the day then it pays to arrive in the round before. For example, if you plan to arrive for round 3 (at 5pm), I would try and turn up around 3pm.

On saying all that, there are spaces in games still available and Games on Demand is always open. Plus it has Malcolm Craig, writer of Hot War, and Greg Hutton, writer of 3.16, running this year so it will be a great choice.

So, yes it is still well worth coming along even if you haven't preregistered. Smile

Its an open invitation to all attendess. It gets good number but not everyone attends, such as myself due to parental duties.

And don't forget there is a really awesome cyberpunk / Mafia LARP called MAFIA 2071 on the Saturday evening.

We are still looking for players to fill a number of "core" roles, and if these run out we will have some secondary characters available on the day.

Information can be found at
http://www.kapcon.rpg.net.nz/?q=node/6

or e-mail us at kapconlarp09@gmail.com

or just talk to us on the day and see what is left Very Happy

FWIW I recommend most of the games still open in rounds 1 and 2.

I know, right (Jenni Sands): The GM has been a past Kapcon GM winner and I have heard great reports of this game.

ACORN (Sophie): By all accounts, Sophie is a good GM.

24 Hours: regarding Ducks (re:Ducks) (Dingwall Brothers): Again, these guys are past Kapcon GM winners and their games are consistently high quality if trippy.

Succession (Mash): Mash is a good GM who knows his noir and A Dirty World looks like a great Stolze RPG.

Pokemon Emergency (Nick Pitt): This is the biggest selling RPG of all time (not known by many) and if anyone can make it rock it will be Nick Smile

And some of the games in the first two rounds get run again later in the Con so if there is something you like the look of you will probably be able to play it later on.
