K500 1Guiaranor33 Khadazar

Mak had dressed but Dosturnil, one of Bali’s servants insisted on inspecting before leaving the room and after making some adjustments to the jacket he nodded approvingly. “Accompany me.” he said and Mak followed him out the door and into the vastness that was Khadazar. Bali once joked that Tordagh build big because we are so small…plus of course we can build. But the extravagance of Khadazar was unlike anything he had seen…even since his adventures beneath the Fortress of the Wind and the fortress in the Hills of Sortann. Some of the main avenue were up to 16 to 20 levels high with bridges and causeways spanning each level throughout and it was expansive and Mak had only seen a small portion of the kingdom, and always in company of Bali or other Tordagh. But he had seen other Therim…humans here, barbarian types mostly, who seemed to act as rangers and scouts, often working with the mountain barbarians who were able to live and survive in the harsh conditions outside. Mak did not want to admit it…but he always found himself lost in this place, not knowing direction sense or anything and he was glad for the escort as Bali was dealing with other matters.

“You will be teleported directly to a room within the private apartments of Her Majesty.” Dosturnil informed. “Such spells are rare…teleportation does have its limitations and the more powerful the spell…subsequently increasing the range and other parameters, such spells can be detected to those with such powers. Some are good…others are evil, chaos or both. We are goint to a location that will absorb the spells affect.”
Mak felt like asking….lots of questions, but knew better than to do so. Though Bali was open…for a King…and that he was here, he was more open about events outside Khadazar rather than within its walls. And one thing he had learned here…the Tordagh though polite in treating him as a guest, were very guarded about their culture, customs and the mansions which were their home.

Using a series of lifts, Dosturnil led him along a corridor that was dimly lit and leads to a room where Bali awaits, looking rather resplendantly dressed. "Just in time...Lonarwaen is waiting to receive us." Bali said. "We do not wish to surprise her. Thank you Dosturnil...I will inform you when we are due to return."

Dosturnil bows formally and leaves. Bali goes to one of the walls and it slides upwards to the roof revealing a whitish sheen beyond. "We are using a special portal spell, that simplifies the link between the two locations. Right...let's step through." And with that Bali steps through the silver sheen.

K501: 1Guiaranor33: Lasgalen: About vampires I

The last 3 days for Kam has been one of pleasant distractions. Goddin had a number of women who served his needs and openly shared them with Kam. “One must enjoy such pleasures of the flesh, the warmth of their skin…the sensation that comes of being close to life’s blood.” Kam had learned that the women had been all kidnapped and dominated to servitude. Four had become his wives these past centuries. Kam also knew that Goddin had a master, who did not dwell in Lasgalen, and spoke of him only on occasions, paying homage to him during elaborate meals, calling him only as his “Lord”. He found he could still eat food though the taste was bland depending on what he was eating and the need was not there as it once had been. The overwhelming need was blood and to this end Goddin had begun instructing him to insatiate his desire through those vessels, enslaved humans that served them both, in a disciplined and control nature. “It is about controlling the inner primal instinct.” Goddin said. “What are as you see us, vampires like on your world?”

Quote:

"Vampires in my ... brother's world ... yes, in Eberron, are unholy nocturnal predators that are bound to their graves," Kam informs him. "They are like yourself in that they crave blood and devour the helpless but they do have vulnerabilities and significant weaknesses."

"We are not unholy," Goddin says. "We are of course evil and we are not confined to our graves. However the undead of this world, raised by necromancers, are restricted to their territories, the focus of which are their crypts. And the weaknesses. Speak of those."

"Gladly. Holy symbols repel them -"

"Holy places and powerful clerics or paladins, not the symbols. However you will find that if you are repelled by a symbol it is because I think we have magic specifically designed to counter undead in the manner that cleric have," Goddin interrupts him.

"- similarly, in Eberron, men of faith and their soldiers have the ability to repel or destroy undead to varying degrees, depending on their proficiency and understanding of their faith. In some cases, those of a darker nature may command the unliving with their faith. That is my understanding," Kam tells hims.

"There are few evil clerics that I know of. The dark religion is the only organisation that I know of that has the concept of an evil cleric. However an azgeyr or an ozgeyr cleric can do similar to the people of your world."

"Mirrors ... curiously, a mirror presented to a vampire will repel them. Is that the case in Karthan?" Kam asks Goddin.

"You must have been distracted young Kam. There are mirrors in your bedroom and they do not repel you. What a silly rule."

"And garlic cannot be tolerated as its odour is both offensive and repulsive to vampires in Eberron."

"What is this garlic?" Goddin asks, intrigued.

Kam responds by saying "It is food, a vegetable that grows in the ground. It is quite pungent and does indeed possess a strong odour. Humans eat it. Quite why it affects vampires ... I don't know. Maybe its just a myth but for some reason it has been noted to work."

Goddin laughs and says "We have no such garlic in this land. Garlic, mirrors, is there anything else?"

"Yes ... vampires cannot cross over running water and cannot enter any place uninvited."

"Remember back at the inn? I entered uninvited and slew all who lived there. Did you know that those stupid peasants actually believe in this myth? And we have no problem walking over running water." Goddin tells him.

"Direct sunlight will disorientate vampires and prolonged exposure will cause disintegration."

"One hour of sunlight on this world will destroy you," Goddin warns.

"Immersing a vampire in running water for 18 seconds or longer will cause it to perish. But I think we've already covered that because, surely, we don't need to breathe?"

"Outside the sunlight, it is the loss of our blood that is a weakness and thus susceptibility to the servants of the church," Goddin confirms.

"I was going to mention that strong magic weapons can cause physical harm, and most importantly, if a wooden stake is driven into a vampires heart it will cause instant death," Kam adds.

Goddin replies "Really?!!! Wooden stakes ... no, they do not harm us at all. However magical weapons do and especially those that are gifted with special properties. the weapon makers call these properties holy or slaying. They can do great damage to us. ... and for you as a werewolf your greatest additional weakness is silver weapons."

"That is the same in Eberron, Kam says. My brother's world is clearly very weak. I think I like this world much better."

"That is good to hear," Goddin says approvingly. "Soon, night will be falling and you must accompany me outside. there are some things you must learn that a little pain won't hurt us.

K502: 1Guiaranor33 Lasgalen: Of vampires II: and a touch of the wolf

Last evening Goddin instructed Kam to accompany him and they went outside to the darkened forecourt area surrounded by the ruined temples. The night was clear and the stars were bright…in such a way Kam had never seen before. The myriad of stars seem to bore into him and his now pale skin began to burn with tiny blisters. “This is Elenmire’s effect during her festival on the likes of us.” Goddin said. “One must learn their limitations if he is to survive. And within the empire there are powers that can destroy us, similar to those that walk your own world Kam.”

Quote:
"Then why are we standing here; should we not seek shelter from this star light?" Kam asks him.

Goddin replies. “Ah…one must bear witness Kam and be willing to sacrifice some to understand one’s limitations.”

Quote:
"Can we heal these blisters with our own abilities?"

“With the blood yes.” With that they both return inside.

This day Goddin said the festival was coming to an end. “Tomorrow will be the start of a new month at the end of which will another holy festival to another deity and so it goes.”

Quote:
"And are each of these holy festivals harmful to us, in the manner that you have demonstrated?"

"No, only Elenmire's."

"Then the other gods of this world seem to be weak. Are there priests of many faiths here, or only of Elemire?"

"The gods of this world are known as the Ilmaren, which translate as powers of creation. And they have servants called the Valentari , the greater servants. Now there are 16 gods, or Ilmaren, of which Elenmire is recognised as the queen, or the sun goddess. She is the creator of all creatures, including humans."

"Did she create our kind?"

"So it is believed, yes."

"Then why would she cause harm to her creations?"

"Oh, you mean us, as vampires? No, she did not. We are considered a curse and my lord was the first of our kind. Before him there were none like us, other than other un-natural animated dead."

"I see, so do the lesser Ilmaren have any power?"

"Oh they are all equal in power."

“The other gods are Rheton, the god of day, Sural, the god of night, Riseina, Goddess of the arts, Landros, Scribe of the gods, Kelarien, Mistress of the Afterlife and the one to whose care the dead are passed to, Rhutarn, god of diplomacy, Baltanor, Champion of the Ilmaren, and King of Battle, Arunar, god of the seas, Sridana, goddess of youth and fertility, Valocar, god of magic, Ilnira, goddess of healing, Lissariel, goddess of agriculture associated with flora and plants, Siandor, Goddess of harvests, Dalinor, the alchemist and alleged creator of the Tordagh and Talhaisse, god of the solisse season. These comprise the Ilmaren.”

Quote:

"Then do we follow any of them?"

"My particular god, for want of a better term, is one of what we call the Sentari (ascended servants) and he is my lord. My lord is one of what is known as the five heroic champions. One of them, Alaris, has ascended and become Elemire's holy champion andher herald. Another, Ovuaduamm, a great bard, has also ascended and is patron of many numerous bard guilds. Kalitrass, has become patron of the thieve guilds throughout the empire. The fourth, Tandhisan, has become the patron of one of the largest fighter guilds in the empire. And the fifth is my lord, who has not ascended but now due to circumstances that even I do not know became the first vampire. And he rules the neighbouring city of Darkhold. He was the warrior mage of the five."

"Were these five all travelling companions at one time. Did they adventure and fight for the empire? "

"Yes they did."

"The five existed as humans at the start of the Karthan calendar. The calendar began with a major war and the five were involved in the battle. Therefore my lord has knowledge that goes back to the beginning years. He is even older than the dark sorceror Khios, who is also considered an ascended though he still lives on this world. However my lord refers to a sixth though he mentions this person not by name. Another ascended whose curse or touch brings on the ability to change form. His name is Mocrare. And he is responsibile for the curse of lycanthropy. However your lycanthropy was not brought about by him because you do not have his mark. With that in mind, tell me, how did you get afflicted."

"I was in the Elder Wilds, at an abandoned hunting lodge, and was attacked and bitten by a dire wolf when I was with my 'brother' which coincided with him discovering me there when I was looking around. I then realised gradually that I had received the curse. On two occasions I have changed under the moon. Once in your presence."

"Do you know of such creatures in your world?"

"My brother's world has simlar creatures and they are also called lycanthropes. But there are many varieties and they may be of different animal forms. All are strong but not as strong as the creatures I have encountered or changed into here."

Goddin says "Mocrare intends only his curse to be that only related to a wolf and we generally believe that is his true form. Of course it is he who triggers the change."

"Why then, do the Ilmaren allow it. How can he trigger the change when presumably the Ilmaren should have control?"

“Who knows why they allow creatures such as yourself and myself to exist? Their servants have the means to destroy us as a result of our existence. What deity on your world influences the change to the were creatures?”

Quote:
Kam simply says "I do not know. It is a curse. But no-one I know has ever named anyone as being responsible. Sometimes it is called a disease and can be cured or treated as such with special herbs."
"And does it work?"
"Again, I do not know. It is a popular story and is most probably, to my mind, just a myth or superstition. The cure that is. The monsters are real."

Goddin smiles. “Well then, Kam, twice cursed by a Dire wolf and myself, or blessed depending on one’s point of view. You are rather unique, you are.”

K503: 1Guiaranor33 Lasgalen:

The wounds from last evening had not healed and Goddin had said they would not for at least a week. “Her touch affects us as would her servants bearing blessed weapons of magic.” He had informed. “The servants of Elenmire and the other gods are numerous and controlled by a institution that extends outwards to all cities, towns, villages and hamlets. In every home the timekeepers ward out evil and chaos…limited their powers may be, but it does send a warning to such that the power of the gods is ever present, day or night.”

Quote:
"So these time keepers, are they religious people who channel the gods' power?"

Goddin replies. “The timekeepers are hour glasses that keep time. Each are blessed by Rheton, god of day and Sural, god of night during their holy festival which is the last month of the year, both sharing that month. They are held by the nobility and presented to a new family at their wedding as a gift. Every home has them.”

Quote:
(Kam misheard and misunderstands)

"Then there must be a lot of them about."

"Can you understand the concept of well over a million?"

"Yes," Kam says. "That sounds like a lot."

"Indeed it is and they are made each year as part of a mage-alchemist's apprenticeship. They are then stored and in the twelfth month the cleric of Retan and Sorel jointly bless them, thus activating the hour glass."

Kam realises he had misunderstood what a time keeper was. "Oh, I see what you are saying now. I thought the Time Keeper was a person, but obviously they are devices. Hour glasses as you say. I had imagined something else. Now the vast number of them makes sense. Do you have one?"

"I do not. It would be annoying and a nuisance to have one."

"I guess it would be annoying to have to keep turning it over each time the sand runs out."

"Sand?!" Goddin looks surprised. "What are you talking about."

Kam explains "In the other world an hourglass is almost exactly that. A glass that has been shaped and filled with sand. When stood upright, the sand flows down into the lower part. It takes precisely one hour for all of the grains of sand to fall down, leaving the top portion empty. Then one must turn the glass the other way to account for the passing of time, as in another complete hour. That's what I mean."

Goddin looks bemused. “Ah and if one forgets to turn it over…time becomes inaccurate from that point on. What a silly invention…ours are colour coded for day and night and for every hour and they change very accurately hour to hour. They are magical which is why mage alchemists are tasked…it would be rather stupid to have them making glass objects to hold sand.”

Quote:
"You make a fine point." Kam responds. "The time keepers of Karthan sound very advanced compared to what I am familiar with. I think accurate passing of time is more the realm of astrologers and star gazers where my brother comes from. The basic among us would count their days by the passing of the sun in the sky and the moon at night. But exact time intervals are quite a different matter in general."

“We use the movement of the moons and stars to keep time by the night.” Goddin says. “You will learn that in due course. Now, tell me Kam just who brought you to our world and for what reason?”

Quote:
Kam looks puzzled and says "I have come to know only that I am the shadow of my 'brother' in that I am the darkness to his light and that I only exist because he came to Karthan from his world."

"And you have no memory of who or what brought you here?"

"I share all of his memories up to the point of his arrival and my joining him. There was an elf who recruited him in a desert where they were undertaking an excavation -"

"An elf? What is an elf?"

"They are like a human, only more pleasant to look at and more frail. They are slender and have fast reactions. They also have pointy ears and are attuned with nature. There are half breeds, of which my brother Mak is one. And by association so am I. I guess if you look at me you might see some of those 'elven' qualities and if there are any similarities to the races of your world then perhaps that is what an elf might be."

Goddin looks carefully at Kam and nods. “Of these elf’s I know nothing. So comparing you to one in features…I could see perhaps more differences that make you distinguishable. I have seen people like you before…very rare, mostly bards. They are known as Perintherim (“Fair Men”) and often are ridiculed for their looks.”

Quote:
Kam says "where my brother comes from his half-breed is also caught between two worlds. And the particular desert region he comes from displays a particular dislike for anything that is different. That is why he mostly worked in the desert away from the human settlements, to avoid such prejudice."

“Now, this Elf hired you…who was he representing and what was the offer made to you.”

Quote:
"I do not know who was being represented. The elf's name was Lhazar. My brother did a job and then stepped through a portal to reach this world. That portal was the Well of Worlds. It took him to a forest in the elder wilds where he met with a wood sprite who told about the nearest settlements which he set out to find. Soon enough, he got lost and found me. We journeyed for a brief time together before my dark nature took me on a separate path from his. I eventually got hold of the crown of dominion and, well, you know the rest."

"Tell me of this wood sprite, I have never heard of such," Goddin presses.

"It was female and like a spirit that lived in a tree. Like, not just sitting in the branches, but a part of it."

"Was she like Lhazar?"

"No, I don't think so. Lhazar was like a real person but the sprite was more translucent in its appearance."

"Ahhh, yes. I know what you mean now. It is commonly known that there are benevolent spirits in the forests, streams and pools. In fact every village or hamlet seems to have named a few local ones for themselves. But very little is known about them. And church takes a dim view on their reverance. You are better off Kam, without that crown. It would have consumed you and you would have lost control of all your thoughts and emotions. What I have given you is a lot more than what the crown would have taken from you. We would be able to walk the night freely again and we shall, for our domain is Lasgalen and we have outstanding matters concerning Gaurath to deal with."

"I thought he was destroyed," Kam says.

"He and the crown are both destroyed."

"Then what outstanding matters concerning him can there be?"

"Some of those he influenced still remain."

"Would they not just switch allegiance to yourself now that their master has been destroyed?"

"They were not present when he perished but they have returned now."

"And what manner of creature are they?"

"Shadow demons. And they must be destroyed before they begin to influence the balance in Lasgalen for their own means. In this you will have to assume your other form. We will speak on this tomorrow evening."

“The portal has been activated.” The voice said.
Lonarwaen nodded. “Can you adjust so that they arrive here.”
“It is done.” The voice returned.
“Thank you…for everything.”
“Remember Lonarwaen, you have a duty ahead of you that is essential, vital to your people. This is the reason I have decided to ensure your future is one that you desire.”
“Yes, the Dukes tolerate a Empress, but I just hope that they will…”
“The loyalty of your Dukes is not in question. They know of the coming conflict and therefore know that they must fulfill their responsibilities to the citizens of Karthan. They will expect you to lead.”
“And lead I shall…with Alladan beside me.”
“Yes…your guests are arriving.”

K505 1Guiaranor33: The Dark Tower

“This cannot be.” Khios exclaimed surprised. The book before him was not writing, though he knew a major event was occurring in Cerberus. “Why cannot you see this?”
The book replied. “Shielded from our knowing.”
“Shielded…by whom?”
“One of the Powers of Dominion, though whom, I know not.”
The gods…it must be. Those interfering…

K506 1Guiaranor33: Beneath Cerberus

Lonarwaen was alone beneath the foundations of Cerberus, deep where the great forge is located, where the ruins of two former capital cities was forged along with the great hammer of Reorx.

Above her Alnuathor in ethereal form awaits the arrival of her guests, Bali Foehammer and the one not of this world, Mak.
He feels another presence…Stormwing. “Why are you here?”
“Please excuse my intrusion…I am curious. You are doing this…why?”
“Because I made a promise. Remember, Lonarwaen has the blood of my race, the Sulthalion. She is unique, for all Perintherim that exist in this world derive from Valandor, such is their passionate ways.”
“Yes they are…but remember you created them so.”
“I did so and have no regrets. Their passion for the world is that which checks the balance between them and the Sulthalion. I created them first as I too enjoyed the passion they feel.”
“As for this moment…you bring back the past, you bring back those who could remember you as a destroyer of their kind.”
“Yes, even I must atone for the past. This is essential to the future of this empire.”
“And that is why I am here…my race watches and waits.”
“Yes I know. The others are arriving.”

K507 1Guiaranor33: Beneath Cerberus

The journey was immediate, Bali and Mak emerging into a chamber that was softly lit by a hue of bluish white luminescence. Before them was a low lying cavern the floor of which was smooth and mosaic, tiled in marble perhaps and the sides were rubble, the ruins of buildings many caved in by slabs of foundation stones above. “Where are we?” Bali asked.
“We are beneath the capital.” A voice replied. Emerging from around a rocky outcrop Mak sees a tall woman whose natural appearance and charisma exuded a regal refined elegance, finely dressed, delicate featured yet wiry, long wavy hair cascading over her shoulders. “Greetings Bali.”
Bali bows slightly. “Lonarwaen, beneath the capital…how far down?”
“Cerberus is built over two other cities, this is the oldest of the two.”
“I can sense the Earthnode deep below, Reorx is there.”
“Yes the hammer that shaped the world.”
“Indeed.” Bali says proudly. “Ah Lonarwaen this is…Mak, our visitor to this world, who has been rather busy since arriving here.”

Quote:

Mak bows respectfully and addresses her "I am pleased to make your acquaintenve, your Imperial Majesty."

"I can assure you I did not tell him too much," Bali says. "And his name 'Mak' is easier to pronounce."

“Greetings and welcome Mak. Bali has told me about you and of your twin in Lasgalen, where we recovered the White Sword.”

Quote:
"Yes, your imperial Majesty, that is true. However my twin is not natural, he was not born but rather appeared when I arrived in the Elder Wilds."

"Yes, Mak is correct," Bali says. "He was one but now is two. Long story but Elnuathor knows something about it."

Lonarwen says ... "I know enough of you to know you are on a journey where a means to an end is possible. But I hope before your journey continues that we can speak on your perspective of our world."

“Speaking of the White Sword, where is it?” Bali asks intrigued.
“At the Church of Elenmire, awaiting it’s next wielder.”
“And who is that going to be…I would have thought it was the Lord Palladin.”
“Not so, the sword will choose it’s wielder in time. Now what you see her is just part of what I call the galleries. I believe this was once a forecourt and there are 6 avenues that lead to other forecourts 3 along the left side of this forecourt and 3 on the right. The end is totally sealed, the foundations collapsing in ages past.”
“What was the fate of the two cities, on which Cerberus is built on?” Bali asked.
“Destroyed during previous Transcendences and the subsequent wars that followed against Kharagh. Such a war that we face at the end of this year.”
“Right, so remains the last and of course the question to end them all.” Bali says. “Why are we here?”
“You are about to find out.”

At this point Mak notices Lonarwaen is wearing a silver Falcon ring and she looked somewhat nervous.
Then another voice spoke, quiet, yet resonating throughout the cavern. “The number of those here have been confirmed by Kelarien. I can sense no more than the designated number of the fallen. I can now begin.”
Bali looked at Lonarwaen who was watching and waiting.

K508 1Guiaranor33: Beneath Cerberus: The returning

What Mak sees is the bluish white luminescence begins arcing out over the floor in fine thin strands and each of these strands, very thin and many in number controlled, arc out and touch the ground flaring slightly. Other strands began arcing into dark corridors on the left and right sides, 3 on each side, to the separate forecourts beyond.
“The essence is what has kept their spirits bound here.” The voice says.
“I did not know…Alladan did not tell me how they remained all this time…”
“Whoever was responsible had a sense of purpose and a knowing of the future. I sense two, one a cleric the other a mage, both of great power. I can almost see them, but such time has passed, as they have…they now fade from me.”

Forms began to appear, slowly coalescing where each strand of blue light touches the ground. The forms are humanoid, surrounded by blue light and they are lying on the cavern floor, so many in this forecourt alone.
“Lonarwaen…who are these people?” Bali asks quietly.
“They were once soldiers who served a king that ruled our land long before the Karthan Empire came to be. They were known then as the Starfire Kings.”

Through the bluish hues, the forms began to assume a more solid form and Mak could see raiment, shields and armour clothing them, mostly uniformed as knights or men-at-arms, but a few clothed in tunics, and breeches or in scarlet and orange robes.
“Ah…just how many are there?” Bali asks.
“Ten thousand and eighth five.” Lonarwaen replied. “Located in seven forecourts.”
Bali gasped surprised “Ten thousand…and does anyone know about this, like the High Steward?”
“No, just the 3 of us and of course Alnuathor who is returning them to us.”
“I would love to see the look on old Parnael’s face when you tell him this.” Bali muses still trying to comprehend just how many were here.
“I can assure you, he will be the first to know and yes I am looking forward to seeing his reaction.”
“Hmm…have you got things in place, just how can you absorb ten thousand among the populace.”
“For the moment they will remain here, tended by Alnuathor’s people. I have made certain preparations.”
“A cavern floor is not the best place to recover, considering they have been down here so long.”
“I know, Alnuathor’s people will maintain their unconscious states until I put my own plans into place. Look…it is nearly complete.”

The forms were now solid…soldiers, perhaps servants and magic users lying on the ground. The knights were resplendent in fine armour of bluish white and the shields bore the Falconer symbol along with a bluish white star against a red/orange background.
“Hmm, Tordagh made their weapons and armour…excellent quality too.”
The thin strands of light began retracting back to the walls from whence they derived.
“What you see is the body manifested from the memories of the spirit.” Lonarwaen informed.
“The spirit has now been reunited with the physical.” The voice informed. “They are resting. I will summon those of my people tasked to help them. Fare thee well Lonarwaen.”
Lonarwaen breathed deeply and looked out longingly across the forecourt across the sleeping bodies of those returned.
“Ah…what now?”
Lonarwaen looked at her friend musingly. “Surely you would like to meet the future Emperor of Karthan Bali.”
“What!!!!!”

From one of the passage ways Mak sure a figure emerge, stopping and breathing deeply looking down at himself.
“Alladan.” Lonarwaen breathes smiling, tearing in her eyes. “This is the first time I have seen him…like this.”
“What do you mean…oh I see, ah, physically. How long have you known him Lonarwaen?” Bali asks watching Alladan.
“Five years.”
“Well, you have sure kept that too yourself.”
“Yes, even from you, hard as it was.”
“It is Parnael I am going to be amused about. The High Steward is going to have a fit when he learns about this.”

Alladan hears the conversation and turning smiles. He is quite young, yet clad in regal armour, the falcon symbol softly glowing a golden hue there is an imposing strength about him. He approaches moving past those lying around him.
Lonarwaen gasps as he draws closer. “He is everything I could have dreamed of.”
Reaching her Alladan bows formally saying. Your imperial majesty as the last of my line I speak on behalf of all my people when I say we are hear to serve you.”
Lonarwaen looks down and places a hand on his shoulders and turns to Bali. “You have witnessed this.”
Bali nodded. “The pledge of loyalty is witnessed.”
Lonarwaen turns to Alladan kneeling before her. “Now rise my future husband and let’s not be any more formal about the returning.”
Bali turns to Mak. “That is why we are here…to witness the event and the pledge.”
“Yes and it was I who insisted on this.” Alladan said. “Without the pledge we are without a kingdom, without a home…now this is no longer.”

K508 1Guiaranor33: Beneath Cerberus: The Falconer

Alladan looks at Mak. “You have one of the Lord Rings my friend. Who are you and how you came to obtain it?’
Lonarwaen looks at Mak surprised. “He does?”
“Yes he does.”

Quote:
Mak stands for moment, thinking of how to respond appropriately. Then he looks directly at Alladan and says “Your Majesty, I found the ring while exploring ancient ruins in the Elder Wilds. It has become a key and led me to many other places, together with compass markers that I have been finding in those ancient places.”

Alladan thinks for a moment turning to his people lying peacefully on the ground. “I sense they are healed an good in spirit and I see some of Alnuathors people coming at attend to them.”

Indeed Mak sees figures appearing in the room dressed in green or scarlet robes, elegant, refined, their charisma and presence powerful, cloaks covering their heads and shadowing their faces. They begin to move among those lying on the ground silently going about their task.

Alladan watches them for a moment and acknowledges with a grateful nod than turns to Mak and describes the two compass markers by colour, gold and red. “Are those what you mean?”
“Yes, your majesty. That is exactly what they look like.”
Alladan says. “We discovered them some 600 or more years before the Twilight Wars began. We have simply, stored them away as artifacts due to their age, but not learned whether they had any purpose.”
Bali says. “Oh they have a purpose. Mak has been teleported goodness knows where when he finds a needle to place in the marker.”
Alladan is thoughtful. “If memory serves, the gold marker had one needle and the red…no it had none. I saw them as a child as where they were kept was under the patronage of my father. However, concerning the ring…to wear such you must either be of our bloodline or have it gifted in ceremony as I had done so with my beloved, Lonarwaen.”

Quote:
“Your Majesty, when I found it and placed it on my finger I felt an acceptance, and there was an energy within me that manifested. It was ... how do I say ... a tingling sensation. Perhaps my people in my world are of the same bloodline? I am not of this world. I am a visitor. And my heritage is one of mixed blood, though it shames me to reveal that because where I come from some people hate us.” Mak informs him.

“Why, because you are half-elven?” Alladan asks.

“Exactly so, your Majesty.”

“- you know the word 'elven'?!” Bali exclaims.

“Yes, as does Lonarwen, for that is what we are.” Alladan says.

Alladan says “We have legends of our ancient forefathers arriving here from another world.”

Bali says to Mak “They must be from your world, otherwise you would not be wearing the ring. And they called you a 'Half-Elf'.”

“This is quite unexpected, your Imperial Majesty,” Mak addresses Lonarwen. “I thought I was the only one here of my kind and I have been keeping such an identity concealed. Do others know of your heritage, please, if that is inappropriate then I will ask nothing further?”

Lonarwen replies “The citizens know I am Perintherim. However the nature of us as a people, or as a race, has been the source of conjecture. The citizens know nothing of the existence of what you call elves, referring of course to Elnuathor's people. You have met Valendor who are within the Empire the spirits of nature. It is generally felt that the Perintherim derive from a seductive union between a Valendor and a Therim. My own bloodline is unique in that I derive from a union with a Suthalion, not Valendor. When I was born, Elnuathor told me later in life that his people wanted my life extinguished and those of all the Perintherim, but he decided against it. So yes, even on our world the Perintherim or 'half-elves' as you call them, face challenging times for acceptance. However in the Empire many become bards are therefore very popular. It seems one of their natural vocations.”

Bali remarks after some thought. “So Alladan here is a descendant from those who came…very long ago, long before humans arrived here, from Eberron, And Mak here is a descendent from those who took that journey from Eberron…just plain weird, or at least coincidental.”
“So the Tordagh shows some intelligence after all.” a voice says musingly. Mak turns to see Lianna…looking oh so resplendant in shiny black tight fitting breeches and tunic.
Bali turns and looks towards the roof. “I thought she was gone forever.”
Lianna smiles. “Oh I think now, our journey has just begun. And I am glad to see you old dwarf I think Mak called you, alive again.” She turns and addresses Lonarwaen with a formal nod. “I am Lianna, my father sent me here to personally to overseer the care of your people.”
“Thank you. It seems you and Bali have met before.” Lonarwaen says smiling.
“Oh yes…it was I who recruited Mak to come to this world, chose him especially because of his bloodline.”

“You will find him beyond the courtyard.” Goddin said. It was night and cloud covered the sky, with only light luminescence from the 3 moons. They were on the western side of the city where the main gate is located, now long since decayed into rust, leaving an arch shaped opening between two towers with the wall, intact here stretching north and south. Here the buildings were more intact as well, Kam and Goddin standing along a wide avenue between what would have been a garrison building, taverns and assembly area for merchant trains. They were looking between the garrison building, where the city guard would have been based and the remains of a tavern, to an alley way that led to a small courtyard beyond, perhaps where men-at-arms would have marshaled to a rally point or been drilled. At the end of the courtyard was a domed shaped building.

“The shadow demon is named Muor and he is one of 3 who have arrived to find out what happened to Gaurath. I agreed to tell him just what happened…and the contents of the letter is that. Deliver the letter then…transform and kill it. The shadow demon is exceedingly strong and will destroy your magical weapons…be wary of it’s curse. When you succeed, you will have given the other two shall we say notice of the fate that awaits them.”

Quote:
Goddin hands Kam a letter and gives his instructions. Kam realises he has never willingly changed to dire wolf form before. Kam accepts his task and move forward towards the dome shaped building. He pauses as he draws near and looks around cautiously, looking for any signs of movement. Goddin is watching him and there are a few small creatures or animals skittering around. He ignores them and enters through a large opening. He notices the opening is very dark, darker than the night itself. Kam enters and cannot see. It also feels warm inside. An area ahead faintly lights up and he moves toward it. A voice says "deliver this letter and leave."

Kam pauses and replies "Goddin has commanded that I stay while you read the letter. He tells me that you must show yourself and show respect to his messenger. That is who I am."

"As you wish," the voice says. The room illuminates faintly, a reddish hue and in front of Kam is a very tall humanoid figure that looks solid and black. Devoid of clothing, with long arms and claws for hands. Kam can smell death about it.

"Here is the letter from Goddin, as he has commanded me to give me. I trust you will find this ... most satisfactory." He reaches out, holding the letter in his outstretched hand, waiting for the humanoid to accept it.

The creature's massive hands reach for the letter and it takes the letter with massive claws that are about 12 inches long. Then the letter unfolds and hovers in front of its face.

As the creature reads the letter Kam casually remarks "And Goddin also sends his kind regards ..." then he wills his form to change ... WILL SAVE 9 ... Kam briefly sees a grey surface below and the grey surface is chaotically swirling around itself without any direction. He feels and experiences a discourse of beserk insanity and the change occurs. It is virtually immediate and Kam is no longer in control and cannot think ... he is now governed by primal instinct with beserk and insane rage. The dire wolf has taken over.

The creature is warned of the change sensing the chaos…the insanity that suddenly envelops the room and all light is extinguished, however the dire wolf can sense the smell of death exuding from the shadow demon.

Quote:
INITIATIVE 17 - Kam can sense the creature by its death odour. He leaps forward and bites successfully (22 hp) but then slashes wildly with his claws and unbalances, falling over. The humanoid strikes with clawed hands (14, 15 hp). As the wolf regains its footing, the shadow demon attacks again and hits (17, 20). Kam then springs forward and claws the demon twice (11, 15)
INITIATIVE 24 - Kam attacks again but misses. The shadow demons hits back once (15)
INITIATIVE 14 - The demon hits (24) while Kam strikes with two claws (12, 20 - critical 31)
INITIATIVE 15 - Kam presses forward his advantage and bites critically (38 - 84) and then slashes with a claw (11)
The shadow demon fades from Kam's vision as his enraged attack continues.
2,500xp.

As Muor fades out of existence he calls telepathically to his 2 brothers and seals the entrance…the maddened creature unable to leave…

K511 2Thardeth01: Lasgalen

The room is sealed…and the brothers of Muor, Kuor and Suor have responded to the telepathic summons, knowing their brother is beyond reach, beyond existing ever again in this material world.

Quote:
The creature ceases to exist and with the threat gone, Kam is able to think more clearly and concisely as the beserk insanity fades from his mind. He looks around with his heightened senses, keenly observing for any more signs of immediate threats in the enclosed area. He senses nothing and the room is still dark but it is normal darkness and Kam can see. Only the entranceway remains magically darkened. Kam relaxes and attempts to focus on returning to his normal form. WILL SAVE 12. There is no effect, Kam remains in dire wolf form.

He tries to return to Goddin but cannot pass through the opening. It has become a barrier. Puzzled, he sits beside it and growls for Goddin's attention.
There is no response. Kam responds
by impatiently running around inside the domed chamber, seeking out any sign of further openings or weakened masonry or damaged sections of wall. Ten minutes pass and the room is solid. Kam gets very agitated. He is trapped. His hit points are fully restored. He howls a deathly howl. He is enraged by this situation and the frustration of his uselessness grows stronger. He is angry at the creature he killed, for disappearing. He flails randomly at parts of the structure. Then he stops. Time passes. He howls, frustrated at the situation ... calling. The howl echoes in the domed space and it feels like his own voice is mocking him. He growls and snarls and launches himself at the opening again, seeking to burst through it by strength alone. He slams against it but nothing works. He bounces back, landing on the floor. He examines the floor. It is made of reddish stone and very intact. No damaged sections, no exposed dirt. The 'furniture' that existed before is no longer visible, like it was an illusion. Kam sits impatiently and claws and scratches at the ground. He is annoyed and knows this was a trap.

Is this another test of Goddin's??? The wolf wonders. Time passes. He gets more agitated with the silence. Then he sees, merging through the wall, another Shadow Demon. Kam explodes with rage and attacks. The room goes dark instantly but Kam can again smell the creature's death.

FREE ATTACK - Kam leaps across the room and tries to bite it. He snaps his jaws but is smashed in the face by a massive claw as the demon sidewipes him in middair (29) and slams him against the wall. Then he is picked up within another pair of large clawed hands. OPPOSED STRENGTH CHECK 13 vs creature ... Kam attempts to struggle free from the creature's grasp but fails. It throws him against the wall where its companion is (12 hp) and Kam tries landing on his feet. REFLEX SAVE 13 ... crash to the ground and has broken one leg (doesn't hurt but affects his mobility -1 on attacks, -2 AC).

The first shadow demon attempts to hit twice and does (22, 15) ... the second demon is retiring back into the wall from where they emerged. Kam attacks the shadow demon that attacked him, upset at the injury it has inflicted he strikes with a claw (12 hp).

INITIATIVE 17 - Kam attacks again ... bite (22) and claw (10) ... it retaliates twice (19, 16) and again slams him into the wall.
INITIATIVE 20 - Kam is very enraged and bites (critical 52 - 06) and claw (critical 22 - 90) with devastating effect. It misses, possibly affected by the injuries that caused it to stagger back.
INITIATIVE 22 - Kam bites (25) and claw (14) and the demon dissolves.
2,500 XP.

Kam tries to detect the remaining shadow demon by tracking its scent. He is unable to. He paws at the ground impatiently and howls then he sees Goddin enter the domed chamber. He approaches and pats Kamon the head.

"Go," he commands. "The night is yours and you have done well."

Kam leaps through the opening into the night outside. He is free of the enclosed chamber.

K512 2Thardeth02-04

Kam awakens and the place is dank and cold. Where am I? His clothing is wet and covered in dirt and grime and he smells moss and hears dripping of water. The last thing he remembers was Goddin talking with him. “We must ensure his influence is no more in this domain.” What had happened? Here…last time this had happened Goddin informed that he had changed form…last time he had awaken naked. This time his clothing and weapons were on him.

Quote:
Kam explores the cave. A few snake like creatures slither out of his white. White, albino, about a foot long in size. There is air flow coming from above. There are no entrances or exits at ground level, so Kam decides he will climb up to investigate where the air is coming from.

CLIMB 25, 18. Kam reaches the top, despite the slipperiness of the moisture and mossy patches on the rock facing. He looks around when he gets there.

The night is cloudy outside. He was able to see as if it was day and clouds shades of orange and blue were moving quickly across the sky almost touching the trees…bringing mist with it. He was surrounded by forest, tall trees looming skyward about him, the dense undergrowth taller than he. He could see nothing else. The woods were alive with sounds of animal life, scrapings, slithering and crackling of leaves and twigs. Moving through the woods he comes across a body, the remains of a human, his body ripped apart, the ground splattered with blood and gore. Ahead he saw another body, human, male and considering the remains of their clothing, rangers or men-at-arms, the remains of hard leather armour with metal plates, two crossbows, longswords, daggers and backpacks. Their shields are dented and bent, each bearing the same coat of arms. Upon closer inspection he sees that the hearts have been torn from the bodies and it looked like they had been killed by man rather than creature. He has supplies…

Quote:
Kam knows what he is and he knows there is a dangerous beast that rages within him. He also knows that when the dire wolf does not consume his spirit and physical self that the vampiric nature within him also wrests for control over his will. He looks at the bodies and considers that if a creature did not do this, then did he do it as a vampire with his hands? He not know. He worries that perhaps emerging from the dire wolf form has precipitated his new found blood lust, causing a further loss of control. WILL SAVE 19.

“But why should it worry you.” Kam says to himself.
Kam realizes that this darkness is what he always desired. It is power.”
“Then why are you worried.”
“I said that I am not.”
“So you retract your earlier statement.”
“My feelings no longer matter.”
An appreciative snarl. “If I were free I would be feasting on these two.”

Quote:
“Then free yourself.” Kam tells it. He does not resist.

“YEEESSSSSSS!!!” the dire wolf snarls and the change is instant as the dire wolfs form rips through the skin of Kam with feral ferocity. Kam feels wrenching pain followed by exaltation as the dire wolf form takes hold, limbs extending landing on all fours, the primal instinct and need as rich as the smells of the forest about him.

Kam (the vampire) is literally mind melded with Kam (the dire wolf) however not in control but as more a hapless rider. Kam (The vampire loses consciousness)

When Kam (the vampire) is conscious again he is lying on the ground and it is raining.

Quote:
Kam looks at himself. He is clothed and wet. He is covered in blood and can see he is a clearing. He feels well nourished and strong. His keen senses detect the barking of dogs in the distance. He moves into the forest with haste, seeking to move in a direction that will let him circle around to get behind whoever is approaching with the dogs. He intends to hunt the hunters to satisfy his curiosity about whomever it is that is coming.

He manoeuvres through the forest and soon observes six dogs and hears the voices of eight people. He moves closer to investigate and see who they are.

A voice says “I sense evil close by.”
“Is it the wolf?”
“No my friend, it is undead.”
Kam stops and waits, listening for any movement approaching.
He readies himself to fight with the Sword of Kalis.

WILL SAVE 25

He feels a holy force repulse against him. It is irritating, but nothing more. He knows he push forward if he wished to. He does not. He waits.

“Stop here.”
“Yes priest.” another voice says.

The priest knowing that the undead creature has not been repulsed, calls for his companions to halt. Then he creates a circle of protection against undead and evil and enhances it with a ward against fear. Then he summons two air elementals, servants of Valocar and tells his companions to wait.

Quote:
Kam realises that his teachings from Goddin have told him that priests can cause him greater harm. He decides he will eliminate the threat, now that he knows a priest has sensed his presence here. Kam moves forward, encircling the suspected position of the priest and his entourage and moves in closer to attack.

He sees a small clearing with a group of about a dozen men, mostly militia with some rangers, four pairs of hunting dogs and a priest dressed in blue robes. There is a white circle on the ground that his senses tell him he must not go near. Also, on this still night, there are two areas outside the circle where leaves are twirling about 10' into the air. Kam suspects elementals and elects to melt back into the darkness of the forest, to evade them.

He grows impatient and angry that the priest could block him and stalks off into the woods. There is the sound of rushing wind behind him. Columns of rushing air part the undergrowth. Kam tries to outrun it. He sees no point in fighting air. There is no reward in that. Only annoyance.

Kam is encircled by a bluish human form made of solid air as it moves faster than him. FORTITUDE SAVE 22, 16. A stun cloud is cast around him, with all the gas particles charged in its range. He is stunned and burnt (21 hp damage). The air cracles with electricity.

He brandishes the Sword of Kalis, threateningly. “Leave me,” he says. “You are irrelevant to me. You should turn on the one who has used magic to control you. Turn against your master -”

Another bout of electricity passes through him (15 hp plus 4 hp/round)

Kam swings the sword at the solid bluish form. He strikes it easily doing 11 hp.
The one he faces retailiates, missing. The one behind bashes him and Kam is thrown to the ground, struck in the back (11 hp). The stun cloud effect continues with another bolt of electricity doing 9hp.

INITIATIVE 19. Another 5 hp are caused by crackling energy in the cloud. Kam strikes out with the sword, doing 9hp. In response the creature swings but misses and the other moves above and strikes him again, doing 9hp.

INITIATIVE 22. Kam takes 15hp from an electricity blast that knocks him down. Both creatures sense an opportunity and attack, but miss. Kam strikes out with the sword at the one he has been targeting and connects again, doing 8hp.
The two elementals suddenly stop and appear to be listening to something. Then they take off into the trees. The crackling effect dissipates from around Kam.

Kam stops and listens for anything else that may be approaching.
There is nothing. It is quiet.

He turns and stalks off into the dark forest, following the path he had originally set, but unsure the direction he has moved in.

K513 2Thardeth04 meeting of minds

Kam has traveled some time and regains full health. Then entering a clearing he notices the undergrowth is considerably more dense, covering walls of stone, the remains of a building. Stone slabs also line the floor in a circular shape about 20 meters in diameter. Looking around he could see more crumbled and partially ruined walls, like he had just entered an enclosure. Looking at the floor stones he sees burned over two stones a white shape of a skull surrounded by black that sprayed out in all directions for up to 2 meters.

Quote:
Kam inspects the burn mark that bears the shape of a white skull at its centre. Is this a warning, he wonders. Is the mark of somethings domain? He steps into the middle of the ruined structure and tries to stamp the mark out. He is unable to. Its permanently burned into the ground.

He smells smoke. There is a fire nearby. He follows the smell to see what it is that is burning. About 700 yards away he finds a camp fire and there is someone in front of it, sitting and eating a rabbit-like creature that has been cooked with herbs. A small pot of water has been boiled. Human.
Slender, dark hair and dressed in black clothing. Quite refined.

Kam strides forward from the shadows of the forest and makes his presence known. “Hello,” he says.

The man looks up, He is finely featured and motions for Kam to sit opposite.
“Thank you, I will stand.”
The man shrugs and carries on eating. Then he takes out a cloth and wipes his mouth. He looks up and says “so, you have announced yourself. What else are you going to do?”
“What brings you to camp in this dark place? You never know what manner of horrible creature you might encounter in these woods.”
“Then be wary of those who sit alone at a camp fire.”
“I am Kam the Wanderer. What is your name and are you are friend or foe?”
“I am Kinan.”
“And what do you do? I see you are dressed in fine clothes, so I assume you are not a commoner.”
“Don't let the finery fool you. Appearance is everything.”
“Yes ... so what do you do?”
“I am a man for hire. But one presently on a more personal quest.”
“What might that be?”
“I seek to kill someone that is already dead.”
“Interesting. Have you found them?”
“I believe he is nearby.”
“Really? Does your target have a name?”
“Yes.”
“Then tell me. I might help you.”
“Oh really, why should I trust you?”
“You shouldn't trust strangers. But my offer is there.”
“So the offer is tainted with a warning,” Kinan says.
“I merely state a fact. You shouldn't trust strangers. I don't offer help lightly.”
Kinan laughs at that point: I can understand why,” he says. “Now are you going to sit, or are you going to stand there looking the way you look.”
“I prefer to look menacing but yes, I will sit and accept your hospitality.”
Kinan hands some meat and broth. Kam accepts it. He offers wine. Kam takes that.
“Tell me more of your quest.”
“There is one I must kill before the night's end. He was formerly my uncle who craved for power within his order and achieved it. He has subsequently terrorised the region for the past two years. I have been away from home and on returning learned of my uncle's transformation. My brother and his family have undertaken a visit to the imperial capital for the holy festival of Elenmire. However, they have arrived late. So this is the night when I must undertake my task for the sake of my family.”
“Does your uncle have a name?”
“Yes. Bennect.”
“I do not know it. Where is your family from?”
“Kyronir. A small village nearby.”
“Do many people live there?”
“Yes. Why do you ask.”
“I have been lost in my travels and am looking for a safe place to rest. Perhaps, if I help you, you can take me to this village. Tell me ... is it well defended?”
He smiles. “What do you take me for, good friend? Do you really expect to walk into the village, given what you are?”
Kam merely smiles at that. “I am glad you know. So you are telling me that I would not be welcome there? What is your profession, other than a sword-for-hire? What is your speciality. You seem to know mine.”
“Well, since its only the two of us ... “ he disappears. Presumably magic. And then Kam's head is screwed back and a dagger appears at Kam's throat. “This is what I do best.” Then he releases his hold and sits back down. “Not that my family know, they see me as a merchant.”
“An interesting skill,” Kam says. “Not bad. But that doesn't explain how you seem to know what I am. Tell me how you know this. Tell me what I am.”
“You are unique. Undead in two forms. And you are not a hybrid. I will give you some advice, friend. Do not trust your other form because it is not controlled by you.”
“I know that.”
“So you know what controls it then?”
“I do not. But then I do not particularly care. It gives me power. It makes me strong. You should fear me. Why don't you seem afraid of me?”
“As a vampire I do not fear you. As to your other form, you are killable. However, your other form is what you should be worried about.”
“Why?”
“In you I see evil. In your other form I see chaos and something else. Both things that I feel have one thing in common against what you are in this form.”
“What is that one thing?”
“Think about it.”
“I don't want to think. I simply am.”
“And there is, my friend, your problem. You see when you say ... I don't want to think ... you are saying what the wolf wants in you, not what you want. Unlike other of your kind, who crawl out of crypts and graves you are human. You are here in this camp fire wanting humanity, company. The wolf doesn't want that. So what is the difference, The wolf does not think. It has no mind and it has no humanity. And the more you surrender to it, the more it will strip away what you are now. No longer could you have an intelligent conversation with me. Do you wish to consume yourself with so much power that you do not have the intellect or mind to enjoy it?”
“I can control it. I already have. It does not control me. That is why I am here right now, talking with you ... as a friend.”
“Well then friend, shall we break camp and go about my task?”
“Yes, I am intrigued.”
