Excepted from the Lonely Planet Guide.

Stillwater is a thriving metropolis on the Eastern sea board of America. This active port city has become a nexus for the superhero community. It is also home to the National headquarters of the famous organisation, Heroes Without Borders. With such a strong superhuman presence in the city the police force has formed a special squadron to liaise with the masked community, called Superhumans Tactics And Response (or STAR).

You may want to check out the Saturday morning farmer’s market held on the waterfront from 8am – 2pm. The fresh fish here is excellent, as is the slow rising Italian bread.

If you’re lucky you may catch a glimpse of the League of Heroes: The beautiful Ultima, the astounding Thunderbird, the ferocious Fenris, the mysterious Raptor and his youthful sidekick Sparrow. Some prime spots for viewing potential superheroic events are the top floor of the Stillwater Tower (tickets to the viewing platform $22 per adult) and the numerous modern cafes along Main St. The Stillwater museum has a dedicated Superhero wing filled with memorabilia and curios from the city’s history.

PS 238 is one of the country’s only schools for meta-prodigy children and is widely regarded as an excellent hall of learning. Attached to the Lee Institute for metaphysical studies and research. The grounds are very picturesque with many paths through ancient oak trees.

If you visit during football season, make sure to check out one of the Stillwater sentinels games.

How Much is Enough?
Editorial by E. Thomas Tudor

Heroes Without Borders? More like Terrorists Without Laws! After the death of my daughter at the hands of one of these so called heroes, this town has been on a steep slide into anarchy. Fenris, clearly a dangerous criminal, is allowed to walk free. His actions, and the consequences must be brought to the public eye once again.

These people who have superpowers selfishly swan around, picking and choosing who to fight and whose lives to destroy. What society doesn’t want is the powered few to be deciding the fates of decent people. I demand accountability. Rules need to be laid down and strictly enforced to determine what they are and aren’t allowed to do. The Heroes Without Borders programme has shown us masked faces smiling for the camera, but no changes worth anything. Where is the powered registration database so many lobbied for when the HWB programme was established? Why have the HWB tried so hard to shut down the Trust for Concerned Citizens website, which documents the known aliases of masked men and women, putting this essential information into the hands of ordinary people? Wouldn’t you like to know if your next door neighbour is going out at night in a cape and mask?

Valuable city resources and funding are channelled into cleaning up after these so called heroes every single day. We are forced to pay to clean up the messes these people leave on the streets, the property that is damaged in their battles, the damage to civic monuments, even the shops that get their windows smashed in. The innocent taxpayers, the ones who are having their wallets robbed by the authorities, are the ones who are paying for each and every ‘powered incident’.

The police force’s so called STAR unit is another sign that those of us who dare to speak up against the masked threat aren’t being taken seriously. This unit is made up of little more than superhero sympathisers who enable these people to get away, literally, with murder.

I say enough is enough. The powered community must be made to answer for their actions.

Deadline Stillwater: Police still confounded by underworld killings.

Det Bud Stone of the Stillwater PD STAR department issued a statement earlier today. “The police investigation into the murder of Antonio ‘Boney Tony’ Mendoza is ongoing, we have several leads that we are pursuing. As yet no arrests have been made.”

This is the latest in many recent slayings of known underworld members, leading Stillwater police to think that a change in the power structure of major gangs may be occurring. When asked if vigilante justice was suspected Det. Stone denied any knowledge of any such activity.

The teen superhero team The Misfits were first spotted on the streets of Stillwater in November of 2005. Led by teen hero Ultima the original line up included Raven, Spy Boy (deceased), MetroGirl (deceased), The Jester and Breakout (deceased.) As the team gained popularity they added new team members Excelsia (retired), Crisis (deceased), Diamond (deceased) and finally Fenris*.

The Misfits were a highly successful team, defeating such villains as Stabby, NuKleer, The Fireman and the original Doom Patrol. Famously denouncing their “Boring, old fart”** counterparts in the League of Heroes and gaining a huge fanbase amongst the Stillwater student population with their street fighting styles and rebellious, anti-authoritarian attitude.

The Misfits had a devastating encounter with the reformed Doom Patrol in January 2008. Over half the team were killed and the group was dissolved.

Ultima, Fenris and Raven were inducted into The League of Heroes soon after. Jester formed a professional partnership with The Cyborg. Excelsia’s whereabouts aren’t known.

*Although Fenris wasn’t a teenager at this time, many analysts of the superhero community assumed he joined this team to prove himself to The League of Heroes.

** Quote from The Jester, appearing on Saturday Night Live March 2007

Thunderbird Implicated in Corruption Probe

The city of Stillwater is in shock tonight after celebrity superhero Thunderbird was named as a suspect in a corruption probe involving bribes to city officials and the illegal harvesting of human organs from criminals and super-villains. Sources close to the investigation have revealed that corruption among the politicians was rife and that connections and payments were often made to the League of Heroes front-man Thunderbird to allow captured evil-doers to be delivered to authorities missing several vital organs. Depositions leaked to this reporter detail the lurid activities, stating that “Thunderbird would often make a short detour to a downtown chop-shop with his captives where organs were removed for profit in less than wholesome conditions, before delivering these suspects to the police.”

The Tattler has been forced to withdraw this section of the story after charges were filed under the Superhero Anonymity Act 2001. We are currently appealing this in Federal Court

Thunderbird couldn’t be reached for comment. A person who answered the phone at his residence declined to comment.

T-Bird the new T-Woods?

Fresh revelations today have cast new light on Thunderbird, formerly one of Stillwater’s most highly regarded superheroes. As the investigation into the troubled super deepens, a secret lifestyle of vice and excess has been revealed. Questions were raised following Thunderbird’s suspected involvement in the ‘cash for kidneys’ scandal last week, which revealed the super may have received hundreds of thousands of dollars as kick-backs from the black market in human organs, which he apparently spent on a lavish lifestyle of partying, drinking and enjoying the company of high-priced escorts.

Wire transfer traces have reportedly revealed a string of illicit payments to exclusive adult resorts and brothels world-wide, as well as a series of payments for child maintenance. While government sources have refused to comment, the Tattler understands that other members of the League of Heroes may have been unaware of the extent of Thunderbird’s voracious appetites. It is unknown if Thunderbird is married, or in a relationship, but the torrid details revealed so far, seem at odds with his widely touted squeaky-clean image.

Meanwhile Thunderbird’s friends in government continue to persecute the Stillwater Tattler through vexatious litigation, following a recent report which contained details of the superheroes “secret” identity. The Tattler will continue to vigorously assert that such information is public knowledge, as these details are already widely published on the internet, and that no person should be entitled to such legal privileges. However, as the Tattler also wants to see a return to the Thunderbird of old, a hero we could all be proud of, we hereby offer to pay for the first month of treatment at the Pine Grove Clinic in Mississippi – after all, it was good enough for Tiger Woods.

Really? Booze and Hookers?

Doesn't T Bird do anything original? I was feeling the cash for Kidneys, since I thought he may have been mistakenly visiting a surgeon in order for a smile transplant, but really? Booze and hookers?

Surely not T Bird! Thetattle must be fibbing!
