I've been running the numbers, and beginning to panic.
So far, we have 114 preregistrations, plus 16 informal pre-registrations (people who have let me know one way or another that they are definitely coming), for a confirmed attendance of 130.
Last year, we had 15 pre-registrations in the final ten days before the con. This year, the rush of early registrations means that things have slowed down, but I still expect another 10, taking us to 140.
We also had 20 people turn up on the day without pre-registering. Some of those are in that informal list, others are boardgamers, but I expect at least 10. So, we're expecting at least 150 people this year.
Good news #1 is that the venue can cope. We have an extra floor, it has more rooms than we expected. So we have space.
Good news #2 is that we probably have enough games in rounds 1 and 2 to cope. Including RPGA on demand, we have 26 free spaces in round one, and 22 in round two - about the number we probably need (most of the "informals" are GMs and HarnCon, who aren't taking up player slots in the calculation).
Bad news is that we need more games at other times during the con.
Here's the figures:
Round 1: 15 games + GoD, 103 player spaces.
Round 2: 14 games + GoD, 98 player spaces
Round 3: 10 games + GoD, 82 player spaces
Round 4: 12 games + GoD, 89 player spaces
Round 5: 11 games + GoD, 91 player spaces
Round 6: We'll worry about that later
(These numbers assume RPGA on Demand will rn every session, which I think is highly unrealistic)
Looking at this, we need at least 2 more games in each of rounds 3, 4, and 5 in order to cope with the expected load. I expect I can fill about half of these from people who have promised games but not yet submitted blurbs, but that leaves another 3 sessions. So, if you're a GM, I'd love to hear from you. If you're not currently inspired, pleae consider rerunning something you've run in the past, or pulling something from the SDC archive (http://sdc.rpg.net.nz).
Secondly, we need at least 2 sessions of surge protection in each stream, to provide cover if we end up with more people than expected. You won't necessarily have to run, but having people prepared to step up will save me from a lot of frantic grovelling on the day. This is an excellent option for people who are already running too many sessions.
So, if you can help, please let me know, either here or by email. _________________ Playing: ArM5 - Fons Albae; Pendragon: Defenders of Sarum

If you get stuck I am happy to forgo playing in Round 5 and run one of my Saturday games as a standby option. _________________ Playing: Call of Cthulhu (Masks of Nyarlathotep/Kingsport Adventures)

Sure, I can do another game on Session 3/4
Not the current Purgatory 13, but some other game (maybe a re-run of last years "My life with the Boss", or a recon version of "SFW")
Plenty of games I can pull out of a hat (Last Action Villians could work too, I wonder if I have all the cards for that) _________________ Ta Dan |

There have been some crazy ideas floated for games on demand hosting much larger groups than usual, so that's an option too.
E.g.:
* InSpectres prize challenge (with several teams competing)
* Crazy huge Parsely games: I have several of these, so we could fill a room with people and worth through ACTION CASTLE!, JUNGLE ADVENTURE, SPOOKY MANOR, SPACE STATION, PUMPKIN TOWN, all the way to RETURN TO ACTION CASTLE!
* Old school challenge: me and Simon run large parties through old school killer dungeons in a spirit of "see which GM kills the most characters" or, from the other side "see which character survives the longest"
* 3:16 - The Platoon: Larger scale 3:16 with 12+ people playing the whole platoon. _________________ Games: http://genericgames.co.nz/

Further to Mike's post I can run Best Friends with 10+ people, if they're all keen _________________ read more of my daring adventures at http://jennitalula.wordpress.com/ |

I can't remember what games (if any) I am signed up to play in sessions other than round 1, and the Kapcon website appears to be down.
Potentially I can do surge protection for round 3 but I don't know if I'm already signed in to play something that I really really want to play, such as Liam's Black Cat sequel.
I won't volunteer for round 4 though, I've tried running with a LARP hangover and it doesn't work. _________________ read more of my daring adventures at http://jennitalula.wordpress.com/ |

All interesting ideas, but I think the real gist here is that if you think you could run a game at KapCon, you should. Be it a repeat, an SDC entry, a bought scenario, or joining in facilitating GoD.

Maybe you could convince Idiot to swap my Round 1 and Round 3 games.
By the way are GMs still getting priority of choice? I vaguly remember something like that last year or am I imagining it?
It might be enough to entice a few more GMs if they do. _________________ Playing: Call of Cthulhu (Masks of Nyarlathotep/Kingsport Adventures)

Thanks. I've put you down as surge protection for the moment.

Not a hope, sorry - there are people already signed up for it.

Yes. An email will go out about this next week, when the timetable is looking better, but GMs get one free pick for every session they run. So if you see a game you want to play in later int he con, the way to guarantee it is to run a game. _________________ Playing: ArM5 - Fons Albae; Pendragon: Defenders of Sarum

That sounds great, though it does mean you'll be running 3 sessions in a row. _________________ Playing: ArM5 - Fons Albae; Pendragon: Defenders of Sarum
