... finding out about Kapcon via the Fidonet NZ-RPG echo.

... the train was cheaper than flying - 5 hours of train and 3 hours of ferry, compared to 45 minutes to get there.

... walking into town from the ferry terminal, whoops.

... Vampire larps.

...girls at Kapcon would be classed as Rare (R) or Very Rare (VR) if they were in the 1st edition AD&D Monster Manual...

I meant in terms of frequency appearing, not of anyone actually referring to them as such

I remember when AD&D1st was still being offered as a game you could play...

I remember a certain AD&D1e game in which we were given 20th level magic users and expected to know the spell listed on the character sheet from the PHB Wink

...it was not unheard of to have to make a PC for the scenario before playing. That may make sense with some RPGs but this incldued Shadowrun.

Yeah, at the time it seemed like a pretty reasonable assumption, after all everyone played D&D!

(And it was 2nd ed. I'm completely confident that with 1st ed the game would have been awesome)

If you ran that same scenario in 2012 using all of your l33t Kapcon skills that you have learned since then, I would certainly sign up to play in it.

Sound like a challenge? Smile

...when having color player handouts meant you were likely to win best GM (OK this is an exaggeration, but I remember how rare these were in those early days) Very Happy

Pretty sure we ended up with some Masonic plumbers, a smurf, and some sort of anime character on our 1950s sci fi spacecraft in that game, which you were running Very Happy

Glock remembers sending his little smurfs out to rule the world!...

He also remembers spending countless hours working on LARP Characters, New Game Designs and sitting on all his old prizes he had won... BUT MOST OF ALL...

I remember all of the wonderful friends I have made through Kapcon. Smile

Reminiscing about the LARP doesn't seem right as its only in its 11th year or so Wink

Me and all my brothers won a prize each for being the first family to attend a Kapcon, even if that prize was an obscure 2nd ed supplement Wink

I haven't attended enough Kapcons to reminisce about those old days. I can remember being very frightened at my first ever Kapcon and then loving it Smile
