Headline
159 attendees.
This compares with 128 last year, and 110 the year before. 124 of those attendees pre-registered:
Gender
114 Male, 45 Female.
This is a slight improvement on last year, and our best year yet.
Origins
Wellington 84
Auckland 25
Christchurch 9
Dunedin 6
PN 5
Other 12
Unknown 18
(Note that my origins may be incorrect; I don't always update the "City" field when someone goes overseas for their PhD)
There was a big jump in attendance from Auckland, and a good turnout from Christchurch and Dunedin.
History
58 of our attendees were first-timers. That's a massive increase on the typical 31, even accounting for the one-off influx from HarnCon. I'm not sure if the discount helped here, or whether its just the effect of better connections with the Auckland larp network.
The downside is that our number of second-year attendees - people who have been to only one KapCon in the past - dropped to 16, down 5 on last year. That's not good news. Looking at the records, only a third of last year's first-timers came back. Normally, its half (that is, 50% of the 2009 intake came back in 2010, and the same for the 2008 intake in 2009). So, we did something wrong last year, gave people an un-fun experience somehow.
Games
35 GMs ran 64 sessions, not including GoD, HarnCon and RPGA on demand (mainly because I don't have good stats on who ran what in those areas). This is actually fewer sessions than last year. The reason? Larps. we had at least one per session which was a double-sized game. The popularity of GoD, which offered more spaces this year and filled them (plus extras) also reduced the number of scheduled sessions on offer.
Here's the visual breakdown of the proportion of the con GMed by those who ran 1, 2, 3, or 4 sessions:
As before, these stats do not include GoD, RPGA or HarnCon.
It looks like we've suceeded in pulling the con more towards a mix of play and GMing, with less reliance on a small group of self-sacrificing GMs who run all con (otherwise known as "single points of failure). We've broadened the GM pool a bit too. But what the graph doesn't show is that some of our GMs took a heavier load, by GMing in GoD as well as scheduled streams, so it may just be hiding the problem. _________________ Playing: ArM5 - Fons Albae; Pendragon: Defenders of Sarum

Wargames Supply have also been very good at pushing us and handing out lots of flyers. I talked to at least one attendee who was told about Kapcon on the Friday and then came along for the weekend.
I'm planning to have a poster up in there July this year. _________________ Playing: Doomstones (Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying)

Sweet stats bro and good work kudos to both the Kapcon Organizers and everyone who pushed to get new and old people involved.
For interests sake as I am thinking about next years games already, can you give us a Genre Breakdown? IE: Horror, Fantasy, Lush etc etc? I think it might help me work out what I want to do next year. _________________ Running: No Kingdom for Old Men [PF]

Wow, that's a lot of the con provided by people who spend at least half their time running stuff for other people.
Is it possible to get a trend of the gender ratio as well?
(Thanks for the figures.) |

This is a fairly crude analysis; if anyone wants to do a better one I can zap them the game list.

Sure, but its not very informative or impressive:
Note that female attendees are much more likely to larp. I'm tempted to do some stuff about attendance patterns, and average kapcons attended by gender. Or maybe return rates? _________________ Playing: ArM5 - Fons Albae; Pendragon: Defenders of Sarum

Do you have any stats for number of players in the LARP, by year?
Yes, I know, some years it was capped. But it still might be interesting to look back given the hope (plan?) that we could have 85 players next year. |

I don't, sorry. Larp admin is its own thing.
I do know from the games that have been published that we can reliably get 65 or so, and that this year at least was capped (don't know about reunion). So there's some scope for growth, and more so if we keep aggressively marketing at Auckland (but Hydra could counteract the latter). _________________ Playing: ArM5 - Fons Albae; Pendragon: Defenders of Sarum
